Black Gold......Redneck Style

(Beverly Hillbillies Theme)

Come and listen to my story

'Bout a man named Shannon

A sweet redneck man

wondering why his wife is fannin'

they rode one day

and was cruisin' with his nets

and up through the ground came a bubblin' reds

crawdads that is, freshwater lobsters.

Well first thing you know ol Shannon's here and there

he says to his wife "pick your feet up" and she glared

she said Redneck Island is the place I want to be

get me out of this mud, I'm gettin' hun-ger-y

KFC, chicken that is..yum..yum

Now it's time to say goodbye to Shannon and his kin

and they would like to thank you folks fer kindly dropping in

Your all invited back next week to this locality

to have a heapin' help of their hospitality

Redneck, that is,,,

set a spell...take your shoes off

Y'all come back now y'here?

Puppies go to Redneck Island

Hubby and I decided to go to Redneck Island and take the new puppies.

Breesy was really excited!

I overheard her saying

"it's about time someone took me out!  I had 14 puppies

and I deserve a break! Where's the daddy?  Who knows!!  Don't have any help...

I do all the cleaning AND the disciplining. I was told he stays out all night howling

at the moon.

Let's go Leo....no you can't take Lisa's shoe with you.

Big Brown!  Leave the cat alone!  I said come here.......right.......now!

Little Buck....tsk tsk.....bless your heart.....mama needs to feed you more.  Don't fret

baby....you won't always be the runt.

We are going on a trip to the most fun place.....we can run and play to our hearts content.

Now load up like big boys and be on your best behavior."

 Now follow meeeeeeeee!!!!

Run babies run!!!
(and hopefully y'all will sleep all night)

What a great day it was!

Famous For Fowl

You could have knocked me over with a feather....

a chicken feather...of course...

when a writer for the Alabama Cooperative Farming News

contacted me and wanted to write a story on me!

It felt weird when the magazine came out and there I was...

my big, giant face looking back at me from shiny page #12.

I was holding Rod Stewart on the very first day I got him. (smile)

Mrs. Carolyn Drinkard did a wonderful job of making me sound ummm...

interesting instead of down right crazy...:)

The funny part was that my friends may or may not have been horrified

that I included their photo in their chicken outfits in the photos that she

requested of me to send to her.

(I made them autograph their photo for me..heehee)

I was equally shocked and amazed that I had a 5 page spread!!!

Mrs. Drinkard said that was a "first" for the magazine to do on anyone!

I credit her amazing writing skills..:)

It was super nice of Mrs. Drinkard to do this for me.

I was very flattered.

But it did feel strange also...to see me and my life "out there".

I know that by blogging we are already "out there" but it really just seems like it's a

very small, close community...the blogging world.

Or maybe it's because I think I have only 12 friends... which is my usual number of comments..:)

I didn't mention to hardly anyone that I was going to be in this magazine

because I really thought not many people I knew would even get this magazine

but I was wrong!!

My phone started ringing and I had friends and family all asking

"did you know you were in a magazine?"

My face book blew up for a while and it was really fun to hear all the comments.

But it still felt.........weird....exciting....but weird.

I can't imagine how REAL BIG DEAL people in BIG news feel.

So a big thanks to Mrs. Carolyn Drinkard and Alabama Cooperative Farming News

for making this little chick get to preen and strut for a few days...:)

I was thrilled with the article but I'm not sure my "guys" are real happy that all

of ALABAMA now knows that their mom is the crazy chicken lady..heehee.

Redneck Island 2014

We went to the river today to see what "our" sandbar looked like.

Each year the river gets "out" and covers the sandbar and then the water

goes back down and you never know how it will leave the sandbar.

Sometimes it's gently slopes to the water....sometimes it's a steep bank to the water.

So the hubby, the dogs and I went to check it out.

It looked pretty good.

The dogs had a blast.......chasing the waves and running.

I put my feet in the sand.....

We did some target shooting...

some picture taking...

we watched the boats go by...

You can even check out the deer tracks!

It was a beautiful, peaceful day!

Just the hubby, the dogs and me.....

"Redneck Island"

Well, we went to our little piece of paradise...that I jokingly call "Redneck Island."

This is very typical of all of our truck rides.....him on the phone....me...playing....:)

we arrive....

there is a lot of barge traffic

And other boats...

This one was a long way from home....

I grabbed a baby....I can't resist....plus it was a good excuse not to take my shirt off and get in the water.

these cuties were digging tunnels....

My boys showed up.....feel very blessed that they still want to hang out with us...:)

these kids made the day even more fun...

of course we took the dogs...

It was a great day....

Our Little Piece of Paradise

On a Sunday afternoon one of our favorite things to do is ride the dirt roads with the dogs in the back of the truck and the windows down listening to the 70's on the radio.

I realize I have already told you that once before.

But today we crossed by the fields of yellow.....

across the pastures..

through the pine thicket

and came out at our little piece of paradise...

"Our" sandbar at the River...

Ahhhh....

It makes our hearts beat calmer, our breathing relaxed, stress levels go down...

The dogs are happy.......we are happy.

Then we play a little "Redneck Golf".....we see who comes closest to hitting it across the river.

I never win...:(

Our audience..

Now it's time to leave our little paradise and go home...

This is what we do...:)

I know to some people this is very boring but to my husband and I it is some great, quality time spent together.

We talk about everything.....no phone interruptions, no t.v., no internet....just us.

On the way out we passed by hundreds of these....

Do you know what these are called........Cypress Knees.

A cypress knee is a term used in the biology of trees to describe the distinctive structures forming above the roots of a cypress tree of any of various species of the subfamily Taxodioideae. Their function is unknown, but they are generally seen on trees grown in swamps. Some scientists have thought they may help in oxygenation to the tree's roots or assist in anchoring the tree in the soft, muddy soil.

People sell them..

I could be rich!.....lol.....but I wouldn't sell them.

And one last photo.....on our way out.

I thought this was a cool shot....it looks hazy but that is how high the river got up a few days ago....you can see the line on the trees where the water stopped.

I thought it would make a cool abstract photo.

Anyway....this is our life....I warned you in the title of my blog.....not extraordinary....just...

My Ordinary Country Life!

But I wouldn't have it any other way.
